Who can participate?
LEED is offered specifically to women and student groups who are historically underrepresented in the field of engineering: African Americans, Latina(o)s, Southeast Asian Americans (Hmong/ Cambodian/ Laotian/ Vietnamese), and Native Americans/ Alaska Natives.
Applicant attributes: An academic profile demonstrating the ability, initiative, and determination to achieve an undergraduate degree in engineering.
High school academic expectation minimums are:
- High school senior
- 2.75 grade point average (4.0 scale)
- Class ranking (if applicable) in the top 10%
- Advanced course work in math, science, and engineering (if offered) a plus
- A record of service, involvement, and leadership
- Commitment to diversity
How do I join?
Newcomers are always welcome! Here are the requirements for becoming eligible to apply for a LEED Scholarship or for maintaining your LEED Scholarship.

Attend each monthly LEED meeting. Generally, there are a total of eight meetings. Your presence is important for building a community in the college. The meetings promote social, professional and academic development in the diverse student community.

In your first year of scholarship funding, participate in the Sloan Engineering Mentoring Program (SLOAN), which will meet 3-4 times a semester for an hour. This is an opportunity for you to get to know an engineering faculty member and an upper class student mentor.

Show evidence of taking advantage of academic support at least once each semester by doing one of the following:
- Enroll in Supplemental Instruction for Physics, EMA or Math 234
- Attend Drop in Tutoring on the fourth floor of Wendt Library
- Use “Tutor by Request” as a tutor or a participant
- Forme a tutor-facilitated study group through Jia-Ling Lin

Volunteer to promote diversity on campus, once each semester, through service to:
- LEED itself, by helping to organize activities, etc.
- Other diversity organizations on campus
- Diversity outreach activities in the community
- By becoming a LEED student mentor
- Or another activity of your choice

Enroll in Engineering Career Services by the end of your freshman year. A refreshed resume will be required each year for scholarship renewal.

Stop in to visit the Diversity Affairs Office 2640 Engineering Hall, diversity@engr.wisc.edu and introduce yourself.
