College of Engineering Study Abroad Programs

Pontifica Universidad Catolica de Chile (Santiago)

Brief Description

Fall or Spring semester (or academic year/Fall & Spring). Below, you will find some more general information about the program.

Language requirement

Spanish 204 or its equivalent is required for participation in this exchange program.

GPA requirement

3.0 cumulative (this can vary somewhat by institution)

Housing

A family stay can be arranged through a housing service. Details will be provided upon acceptance to the program. No campus housing is available. Students who would like to live in an apartment should arrange for temporary housing (see Amanda) for the first few weeks in Santiago.

Budget

Tuition and fees: University of Wisconsin-Madison tuition
UW program fee: $300
UW-mandated health insurance: $37/month
Housing and meals: $4,200/academic year
Language course (optional but strongly recommended): $800
Resident Director & Excursions: $175
Miscellaneous expenses (laundry, books, supplies, etc.): $1,000
Roundtrip travel: $1,800
Local transportation: $420/academic year
Student visa: $100
Entertainment, vacation and travel costs vary widely.

Application

The online application form and details on how to apply can by found on the PUC website: http://www.puc.cl/dri (click on "Alumnos Internacionales" or "International Students"). The IESP Application Cover Sheet (PDF or Word) should also be completed and turned in with documents.

Please consider the following:

  • Students should check their name and birth date carefully when they fill the on-line application form.
  • Make sure to continue all the way through the on-line application and hit the "Submit" button and continue until you get the "Congratulations" message, otherwise, it won’t go through.
  • Complete and submit the forms on-line, and then turn in the printed application to International Engineering Studies and Programs.
  • Please, submit the printed application form along with the following supporting documentation:
    • Academic Transcripts or records of Home University (English or Spanish only)
    • Spanish Placement Exam
    • One page typed — double spaced personal statement in Spanish (explaining your reasons for wanting to study abroad and attend PUC)
    • Letter of recommendation from a UW professor (Spanish or English only)
    • Two photographs (35mm x 35mm) with name on back.
    • Students applying to Music Institute should send a list of studied repertoire and a recording (cassette or CD)
  • Important
    • Once in Chile, students must show proof of health insurance cover
    • Enrollment in Faculty of Medicine and Institute of Music can not be guaranteed and it's open only to students majoring in Medicine and Music, respectively. Instrumental Music Classes are NOT available. Please contact UC International Office before applying.
