College of Engineering Study Abroad Programs

Brief Description

Fall semester/spring semester/academic year. Called the “City of Pure Water,” Mayagüez is a beautiful, medium-sized city located in western Puerto Rico. One of several colleges in the Mayagüez area, UPRM specializes in Engineering and Agronomy and is the perfect place to soak in the Puerto Rican culture.

Language requirement

Spanish 204 or its equivalent is required for participation in this exchange program.

GPA requirement

3.0 cumulative (this can vary somewhat by institution)

Housing

While there is no on-campus housing at UPRM, the University's Oficina de Residencias Estudiantiles can help students arrange shared apartments or houses close to classes.

Application deadlines

  • Spring: October 1
  • Fall/Academic Year: March 1

Budget

Tuition and fees: University of Wisconsin-Madison tuition
UW program fee: $300
UW-mandated health insurance: $37/month
Housing: $400/month
Meals: $200/month
Miscellaneous expenses (laundry, books, supplies, etc.): $1000/semester
Roundtrip travel: $600
Local transportation: $300/semester
Student visa: $100
Entertainment, vacation and travel costs vary widely.

Application

UPRM asks that applications be received no later than April 15 for the fall semester and October 15 for the spring. Please see Amanda Hammatt for an application. The IESP Application Cover Sheet (PDF or Word) should also be completed and turned in with documents.
