How do I choose a major?

We are often asked if it is necessary to sign up for a specific field of engineering in the first year. Although we encourage students to give some indication of their intended major, it is quite normal for students not to know which field they would like to pursue. Since many students are unsure of their field and others have a misconception of their intended major, we encourage students to engage in activities that may help them decide on a career choice. These include taking engineering exploration courses, attending career fairs and events, talking with professors and experienced engineering students, and joining student societies.

With the help of academic advisors, students can select courses for approximately two or three semesters without making a definite commitment to a specific branch of engineering.
