Placement Tests

Before students can register for classes, they must take English and math placement tests to determine their level of placement. It is also possible to take a foreign language test. This could qualify the student to take an advanced level foreign language course and consequently to receive college credit for the preceding courses. The ACT and SAT tests do not take the place of these placement tests. Placement tests are given on Saturdays in late spring at units of the University of Wisconsin System, select locations in other states, at the summer SOAR program, and during Welcome Week. Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) is just what the name suggests, a campus orientation and academic advising program for students entering the UW in the following fall.
