SOAR

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions generates correspondence to all students admitted to the university for the upcoming year. Once you are admittied, you will receive a stream of information on deadlines for deposits, placement tests, housing, and the SOAR Program. To ensure smooth sailing into your first year at Madison, read this correspondence carefully.

Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) is the gateway to a successful first year. It is a two day program that you will schedule through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Staff advisors and experienced engineering students play a major part in SOAR activities for new students in engineering.

If it is at all possible, new students should attend SOAR. The programming for parents is extremely beneficial, and the advising for students gives them confidence that they are on the right track. Students leave SOAR with abundant knowledge of their curriculum and a schedule of courses for which advisors have helped them register. Students who are unable to attend SOAR receive advising and register for courses during Wisconsin Welcome Days (the 3 or 4 days before classes start). This arrangement is workable, but options for course selection are limited by this time in the registration process.
