Through research at the frontiers of technology and science, the college provides a high quality of professional instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Its facilities, together with the unique expertise of its faculty, are resources which enhance the economy of the state. Part of the college's responsibility is to offer serious students the opportunity to enrich their lives, to build an educational base for productive professional careers, and to become responsible citizens and leaders. As an intergral part of the University, the college offers its students many important opportunities. They receive their education in mathematics and the sciences under many world-renowned professors. They may choose electives from a wide range of courses offered in other colleges on the campus, and they may use the excellent laboratory, computing, and library facilities that a large institution can offer. The students gain a true perspective of their chosen profession through contact with students specializing in other fields; they also find outlets for their various talents in student organizations. After building a solid foundation, the student chooses one of the main fields of professional engineering in which to specialize.
