Re-Entry Students

Return to Wisconsin

Congratulations on your decision to return to UW-Madison!

Regardless of the reasons that lead to your departure from UW-Madison, the College of Engineering would like to welcome you back and help you develop a plan for success upon your return. Below you will find information on applying for reentry as well as information on developing a plan for a successful return.

Requirements & Expectations

Students who were enrolled at UW-Madison but who have not attended for one semester or longer are considered reentry students. Any undergraduate student who leaves UW-Madison and needs to apply for reentry to continue pursuit of their degree, must reenter through the school or college in which they were last enrolled. Students who attended another college or university during their time away will need to submit a transcript with their application for reentry. Students may submit an unofficial transcript for purposes of reentry evaluation.

Applying

Students in good standing who wish to return to the College of Engineering

If you were in good academic standing when you left UW-Madison, that is, you were NOT on academic probation or dropped, you will be automatically readmitted once you submit your reentry application. Students in this situation need to:

  • Fill out the reentry Application Form.

  • In the "Additional Statement" section of the application, indicate why you left UW-Madison, what you have been doing since you last attended and why you are now ready to return.

  • If you attended another University since you last attended UW-Madison, you will need to submit an official transcript. You may submit an unofficial transcript for purposes of reentry evaluation.

  • If you have not yet been admitted to a department, include the courses you will take in the two semesters following your reentry and the grades you will need in these courses in order to be accepted into an engineering department.

  • If you are already in a department, include the courses you will take in the two semesters following your reentry, indicate how these fit into your degree requirements and the grades you will need in these courses in order to remain in good standing.
